Change in Community

How are we dealing with changes in friendships while stages of life are also changing?

During childhood you begin making friends. Most build friend groups and have core friendships that become a part of their core. High school starts and these friendships either change in proximity, communication frequency, or completely end all together. Some call this a friendship break up.

Are we entitled to a life long friendship? Are friendships supposed to stay the same throughout life? I would argue that the beauty of community is that it can change with you. Some friendships are meant for one stage in life. They can bring you lessons that are needed. They can have great significance in growing you as a person. However, when a new stage of life begins, that friendship may not look the same.

Takeaways

Community is meant to be an uplifting, peaceful addition to your life. It does not mean that it will forever look the same as what it did when you were in elementary school. This is not a negative thing. This can be a sign of growth. A sign that you are evolving as a person and new doors are opening. Compatibility changes and the mindset that friendship break ups are negative only gives negativity more weight. Learn to appreciate your present community and cherish the lessons given. Be open to change and remember that a new routine does not mean a lack of love.
